BRAULIO CARRILLO (National Park)


One of the biggest National Parks, covering 117622.161 acres (47,600 hectares) of which 90% of primary forest, it is out of San Jose towards the Caribbean. Most of the time, it only goes through the park toward Limon and Tortuguero. Often covered with a large cloud mass and subject to many layers of fog having incredible biodiversity, with more than 6000 species of plants, including ferns and incredible gunerras leaves (the umbrella of the poor) in which a whole family could be protected from the rain. The Zurqui tunnel marks the transition between the Pacific and Atlantic basins. The main entrance is located about twenty kilometers from the exit of the tunnel and some footpaths you will discover the Ceibo, the tree overlooking the rain forest from a height of 50 meters.
